East Midlands Lib Dem MEP welcomes improved European Parliament website

September 12, 2005 12:00 AM

Bill Newton Dunn, Liberal Democrat MEP for the East Midlands, warmly welcomed the launch of the new European Parliament website today.

The new site has new features and increased accessibility for citizens on which they can find up-to-date information about work at the European Parliament.

A special section on the website features information about the members of the European Parliament and how citizens can get in touch with their local MEP.

Bill commented:

'The new website promises to be more user-friendly - and hopefully will convince users in the

East Midlands that the European Parliament is an open institution working the interest of its citizens.'

'It provides a good opportunity for East Midlands citizens to learn more about the work of the European Parliament and to find out how they can get involved - for example by contacting their local MEP, watching the Parliament in action in the 'EP Live' section or finding out where their nearest European Information Office is.'

A wide launch campaign is promoting the Parliament's website as 'a shared address for 457 million citizens' in 25 EU member countries and is available on www.europarl.eu.int from Monday, 12th September onwards. The launch is being conducted in 20 languages in the EP's headquarters in Brussels and in its 31 national and local information offices across the European Union.
