A Councillor representing one of Northampton's most deprived communities is in the running for an award at this year's C'llr.10 Awards at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium.
Think-tank and awards organiser, the Local Government Information Unit (LGiU), confirmed that Borough and County Councillor for Thorplands Dennis Meredith had been shortlisted for 'Best New Cllr of the Year' at next month's award ceremony.
Dennis, who was elected to the Guildhall in 2007 and to County Hall in 2009, said the news was a fitting tribute to residents in Thorplands, many of whom had voted Liberal Democrat for the first time in 2007.
Responding to the news, Cllr. Meredith said:
"To be shortlisted for this award is a huge honour personally and a fitting tribute to local residents, many of whom supported the Liberal Democrats for the first time in 2007.
"Hard-working people are tired of politicians talking big on issues like crime, anti-social behaviour and social housing and delivering little in the way of change.
"I hope in the last two years, I've shown people that Councillors can make a difference when they stay in touch with the people they serve."
