Poll Win points to Lib Dem victory in May

Liberal Democrats are today celebrating victory in last night's Eastwood South Borough Council by-election. Liberal Democrat Keith Longdon took the seat on Broxtowe Borough Council with a huge swing from Labour. Lib Dem Lorraine Perro also gained a seat from Labour on Eastwood Town Council.
This falls within Ashfield parliamentary constituency and Lib Dem Jason Zadrozny is now set to win the seat from Labour in the General Election. The Liberal Democrats achieved a swing of 22% - more than they need to win the Parliamentary seat. Sitting MP Geoff Hoon has recently announced he is standing down from the constituency after his failed coup attempt against Gordon Brown.
The Lib Dems have been making huge inroads to Labour support across this area in recent local elections, having already replaced Labour as the largest group on the local council.
Lib Dem parliamentary candidate Jason Zadrozny says, " Labour in Ashfield are in disarray. Geoff Hoon announced he was standing down the night before his local party met to discuss de-selecting him and now they have once again been hammered in the polls by the Liberal Democrats.
"The Conservatives, as usual, were third proving once again that the Liberal Democrats are the main challengers to Labour.
"The message on the doorsteps is clear. People are fed up Gordon Brown's Labour Party and are looking for a change. In Ashfield only the Liberal Democrats offer that change."
