Liberal Democrats urge support for victims of Haiti earthquake4.12.22pm GMT Wed 13th Jan 2010 Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for Northampton North Andrew Simpson has urged support for the victims of an earthquake in Haiti, which is feared to have caused a major humanitarian disaster. "With there has been such a major natural disaster taking place in one of the world's poorest countries - where possibly thousands of people have died and tens of thousands have been made homeless - it is important that the international community pulls together to prevent further loss of life," said Andrew Simpson. "Our thoughts and prayers must go out to the families of those who have been affected by this disaster," Andrew continued, "and I would urge all those who can to lend their support to charities involved in the relief effort." Emergency appeals for donations have been launched by charities including the Red Cross, Oxfam and Christian Aid, which can be found at the following links: Red Cross appeal - http://www.redcross.org.uk/TLC.asp?id=102173 Oxfam appeal - http://www.oxfam.org.uk/oxfam_in_action/emergencies/haiti-earthquake.html Christian Aid appeal - http://www.christianaid.org.uk/emergencies/current/haiti-earthquake-appeal/index.aspx
