Bill Newton Dunn and the Liberal Democrats - working for you across the East Midlands

Bill Newton Dunn - Liberal Democrat Member of the European Parliament for the East Midlands

Bill Newton Dunn MEP

Bill Newton Dunn MEP in the European Parliament

Bill is a current Lib Dem MEP for the East Midlands. He has the best attendance record of all British MEPs, and was re-elected as a Liberal Democrat MEP for the East Midlands in 2004 and 2009.

Previously MEP (Conservative) for Lincolnshire from 1979 to 1994, Bill crossed the floor to the Lib Dems in 2000 because of the increasingly-negative and hopeless attitude of the Conservatives against Britain playing a leading role in Europe.

Bill serves on two parliamentary committees - Citizens Freedoms (which in the UK we would call Home Affairs) which deals with Immigration, Asylum, Policing, Visas, Criminal Law, etc. across the EU as a whole; and the Committee on Industry.

Bill coined the now much-used phrase "Democratic Deficit" in a pamphlet in the 1980s.

He is married with two children, and the author of four books.
