Politics and Passion – Lifestyle Public Health – Is it time for a more liberal and ethical approach?

January 15, 2019 8:15 PM - 9:30 PM
Village Inn, Upper Marehay Road, Ripley

Chris Oakley* will talk about Lifestyle Public Health from a liberal and ethical perspective. He questions whether we can believe what we read in the media and if we should we trust the "experts". Can the current one-dimensional strategy of bans, restrictions and taxes ever be compatible with liberal values and is there a more effective liberal alternative?

This event is in the Village Inn at Marehay near Ripley. The pub serves good food and some of us will be eating at 7 o'clock. You are warmly invited to join us.

Chris will start talking at about 8.15 pm, and questions and discussion will follow.

This event is organised by Amber Valley Liberal Democrats but is open to all LibDems in the area and their guests.

The cost for the talk is £2, to cover costs and contribute to local party funds

If you have any questions, or want to join us for the meal at 7, please contact john.shoe22@gmail.com, call on 07780 644707, or via Facebook.

*Chris has worked commercially in health science research and diagnostics for over 25 years. He regularly reads scientific papers as part of his job, travels extensively and has had the privilege of meeting some great scientists from around the world. Around 10 years ago, prompted by a BBC article, he developed an interest in the public health industry and what he considers the gulf in quality between what it produces and what he sees in hard science. He has blogged regularly on this topic, contributed to government consultations and regularly corresponds with journal editors and even some people in public health.
